Should I apply online?

Q: Do all schools accept the LSDAS on-line applications?

A: All 187 ABA-approved law schools have their applications available online through LSAC's web-based or CD-ROM-based software product "LSACD". The product allows you to enter common information (name, address, etc.) just once, and it is then reproduced into the applications for the schools you designate. About half of the schools also allow electronic submission of the applications using the same software. For the rest, you simply print out the filled out forms and send them through regular mail. The LSACD product costs $54 for the web version and $59 for the CD-ROM version.

Many schools also offer electronic versions of their applications through their individual websites. Some allow electronic submission, others require you to print out the forms and mail them. You need to check each school's website for more information on that school's particular options. If you go to each school's website, you save the $50-something, but you have to re-enter the common information several times over.

If you submit your applications electronically, you have the option of attaching your personal statement and resume and submitting them electronically as well. If you pursue this option, it is highly recommended that you also send hard copies in case anything is garbled in the transmission (as formatting often is).
