Graduate Fellowship in Legal Studies

The Legal Studies Department is launching a new Law & Society Graduate Fellowship Program to complement the University-wide Law & Society Initiative established by Dean Janet Rifkin in September 2004. Fellows will be graduate students with scholarly interests in law and legal processes who want to participate in the general intellectual and research environment of the department. The Legal Studies Department is multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary in its critical approach to law, and consists of faculty trained in law, sociology, history, anthropology, political science, and education.

Graduate students chosen to be Law & Society Fellows will receive a two-year full-time TA position in the Department of Legal Studies and will be assigned to assist faculty teaching the introductory course or an upper level course with larger enrollment. Fellows will have the opportunity to pursue their own research with Legal Studies faculty through Independent Study courses, to present their work at the Legal Studies Faculty Colloquia Series, to participate in a planned graduate seminar, and to build close relationships with faculty. Fellows will be given work space in a TA dedicated office in the department.
