UMass Pre-Law Advising Fall Workshop Schedule

Our fall workshops are geared toward seniors and alumni who are applying to law school for Fall 2006 admission.

All workshops will be in E27C Machmer.

The Law School Application Process
Tuesday, September 20th, 2:00 pm


This workshop is an overview of the process -- we will discuss
  • The components of your application, and which is most important
  • How to talk to your professors about recommendations
  • How to get transcripts sent
  • The online application system
  • Recommended timeline for completion of your application
This nuts and bolts workshop is designed to get applicants focused on and organized for the application process.

Choosing where to apply
Thursday, September 29th, 12:00 pm

(Feel free to bring lunch!)
  • Details about how the GPA and LSAT ranges published by law schools work, and what they mean.
  • How to figure out, based on your numbers, what schools are “reach”, “likely” and “safety” for you.
  • Factors you should be considering in deciding where to go to school.
Drafting Personal Statements
Wednesday, October 5th, 10:00 am

Your personal statement is the most important part of your application after you GPA and LSAT score. What makes a good personal statement? We will go over some basic do's and don'ts of law school personal statements, as well as brainstorm topics in class. Come prepared to discuss your ideas for your own statement.
