Possible Internships: Mass. Fair Housing Center

I recently received this email from Erica Johnson, the Fair Housing Specialist at the Mass. Fair Housing Center in Holyoke.

The Massachusetts Fair Housing Center, formerly the Housing Discrimination Project, is the only private non-profit fair housing organization dedicated to enforcing the fair housing act of 1968. Our mission is to seek justice through the court system for people who are victims of housing discrimination in order to reduce homelessness and combat segregation. Our goal is to ensure equal access to housing for all people regardless of personal characteristics that are frequently the basis of illegal housing discrimination. We work to achieve this goal by educating members of our community on their housing rights and through the enforcement of federal and state fair housing laws.

Throughout the years the community has benefited greatly due to our partnerships with local colleges and universities. We have participated with professors in developing research projects, presented seminars on fair housing laws and urban housing issues as well as created internship opportunities for many students. In addition to our ongoing interest in research we are seeking bright, energetic individuals committed to civil rights and social justice to work with us as interns this fall. We especially encourage students with an interest in or knowledge of law, non-profit management, activism, fundraising, community organizing, or research to apply.

If you have any questions or wish to discuss internship or research project options please contact Erica Johnson.
