Timeline for law school applications: Fall 2006 admission

Recommended timeline for those of you thinking of applying to law school for Fall 2006 admission.

January - March 2005
  • Begin thinking about LSAT:
    * June or October test?
    * Prep course or no?
  • Meet with Pre-Law Advisor
March - May 2005
  • Register for June LSAT and LSDAS
  • Prepare for June LSAT
  • Identify your ideal recommenders Talk to recommenders
  • Start researching law schools
May 2005
  • Deadline for registering for June LSAT
June 6, 2005
  • Take the LSAT
August - September 2005
  • Prepare for October LSAT (if you did not take June)
  • Visit law school websites, request catalogs, applications
September 2005
  • Deadline for registering for October LSAT
September 2005
  • Have official transcript sent to LSDAS
  • Visit law schools, if possible
  • Verify accuracy of LSDAS information
October 2005
  • Request recommendations, give forms to recommenders
October 1, 2005
  • Take the LSAT (if you did not take it in June)
October 26, 2005
  • UMass professional school fair - meet with law school reps
October - November 2005
  • Make final decisions about which schools to apply to
  • Draft personal statements
  • Complete applications
  • Check in with recommenders
  • Request Dean's certification letters
December 1, 2005
  • Mail in all applications
Late December 2005
  • Check with Admissions offices that files are complete
Early January 2006
  • File FAFSA and financial aid applications
March - April 2006
  • Notifications arrive from law schools
  • Pay seat deposit
